  1. My family immigrated to Canada from Portugal in the late 1960's. They both travelled through an airplane at different times. They actually didn't meet each other until months later after arriving in Canada.

My mother left Portugal to have a fresh start in life with her sisters in New Jersey. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned because she landed in Toronto, Canada and did not have appropriate documents to travel to the U.S. The decision was based on a family lottery system between nine siblings: 3 to work on the family farm / 3 went to local schools / 3 sent overseas to seek work to support family in Portugal.

  14. My grandparents, on my mom's side immigrated to Canada from Italy in the 1950's. To get here they travelled by boat, which took nine days until they arrived. My grandparents came in hopes of finding jobs, because the econmy was much better in Canada.

My great grandparents from my dad's side however came overseas from Lithuania, Poland, and some from Romania. They all travelled from boat in approximately the 1920's. Most of them travelled here after the war ended, after the war the economy was slow, and there wasn't a wide range of jobs, so they travelled here in hopes of a better economy and more jobs.

  25. My dad immigrated to Canada from China in 1989.The reason he immigrated here was to look for a better job, and a easier lifestyle, with a more healthy environment due to the large number of pollution from factories in China.

My mom immigrated to Canada at a later time (I am not sure when) most likely to provide me with easier education here in Canada, because the way they make children in China learn is very hard and I may not keep up with the others.
